In May 2016, a report by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs revealed a flourishing community of over 30 million Indians living overseas. Recognizing this diaspora’s continuous and significant growth, a question arises: how can this vast community be meaningfully and positively connected to their heritage and foster cultural exchange?
This question sparked the creation of the Indian Overseas Cricket League (IOCL). However, through brainstorming and considering various factors, the name evolved into the NRI Cricket League (NRICL) in July 2016. That same year, renowned brand consultant and designer Vignesh Gangan finalized the NRICL’s brand identity.
Over the next eight years, the NRI Cricket League diligently sought the perfect opportunity to launch, beginning from its conceptual phase. This period was marked by thorough examination and continuous refinement of the project. Engagements with numerous prominent figures significantly contributed to the evolution and enhancement of the concept. Now, embodying the dreams and aspirations of millions of Overseas Indians, the NRICL is gearing up for its inaugural event in Dubai in the first quarter of 2025.
The NRICL goes beyond just a regular cricket league. It envisions itself as a cultural festival, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among Indian expatriates. By providing a platform for ‘expatriate country teams’ to organize matches, the NRICL aims to create a unique blend of physical activity, healthy competition, and cultural connection. This makes the NRICL a significant and promising event for the global Indian community.

Discussions are ongoing and we may see some changes to this list, but we are confident that the NRI Cricket League will be a truly global event.
